Courtesy of Col Simpson, click this link to go to a great YouTube video of a Tankbuster (or Warthog) flight - the camera is mounted inside an RC A10 with twin JetCat turbines - at Wangaratta 2010. Nice plane, nice sound...envious? Me?

Folks

We're thrilled to have been offered another opportunity to visit the glider guys at Lake Keepit, for the weekend of 25th and 26th September 2010, and perhaps make it a longer weekend. Have a look at the Keepit website

The report on the last visit to Lake Keepit is here on our web site and click here for the photo gallery.

This is a great chance to try your hand at flying the real thing, and to take along some RC gear to fly at a great venue. It's quite a drive, but there will be plenty of car sharing and very affordable accommodation available.

If you'd like to go along, please get in touch with Stephen MacMahon by clicking here to send him an email (or see him at the Belrose field). It would help Stephen to know, soon, if you are keen to go.

7:30am and the Model Engines blokes were already there with their trailer - unloading some beautiful aircraft. These guys sure work hard on their weekends! Take a look at http://www.modelengines.com.au for more about our sponsors!

Around 40 pilots registered for the event, and this produced around 70 aircraft, and close to 150 flights on the day. Several people commented that there were almost always 2 or more aircraft in the air, sometimes half a dozen, and everything from a couple of vintage floaters to several twin-engined warbirds and racers ripping up the sky.

Folks

A few important updates following decisions at our club night on 13th April 2010:

  1. The helicopter event has been moved to October 16th and 17th (same weekend as the air races elsewhere) and is now a 2 day event in view of the popularity last year. The field will be open ONLY to helicopters for that weekend.
  2. The club has decided that, after OS Day, all WRCS member events will have NO ENTRY FEE for the future and the first event affected is the Scale Day in May. The $20 entry fee no longer applies, but you will need to pay for your sausage sandwiches, soft drinks and warm beverages!
  3. 2.4Ghz equipment - following national guidelines, 2.4Ghz transmitters will no longer need to be kept in the transmitter pound when not in use, and you will no longer need to hang a key when using a 2.4Ghz transmitter. This does not affect the rules for equipment other than 2.4Ghz, and the key, board and pound system still applies for all non 2.4 gear. The rules on this site have been edited accordingly.
Whilst writing, please don't forget OS Day this coming Sunday (18th April) and please remember also:
  • Mobile phones must be switched off (not just on silent) before you cross the bridge
  • Please keep an ear out for excessive noise, and try to make every model quieter, if you can
  • Road speed - please keep it right down, as the smoother road has resulted in a few incidents and concerns with higher speeds
  • Flying times - please strictly observe the 8am start time on all days except Sunday, when it is 9am. No aircraft, electric, IC or petrol, should be in the air before these times, as the sound easily travels beyond the main gate!
  • Electric motors should not be armed in the sheds under any circumstances
Please also make new members and visitors welcome, and do make sure that our safety rules and protocols are explained and understood. It can be quite daunting arriivng at a new field and learning the ropes. It's up to our experienced members to make sure it's as easy as we can make it!
Many thanks
Ed

10th April 2010 saw a large turnout for beautiful, calm, flying conditions. Here's a sample:

Great to see at least 4 people getting some instruction on the finer points, including a first solo landing - right on the line and angle...
