The following update has been received from MAS NSW. You'll see that it refers to the upcoming retirement of Mike Close, after 14 years as MAAA President. On behalf of WRCS, I'd like to acknowledge the contribution that Mike has made to our hobby and to thank him for his hard work on our behalf.

MASNSW Presidents Report April 2012
The MASNSW Executive had intended to hold our Annual Life Members and Point Score presentation dinner during April, however we have all been heavily involved with other pressing matters which have taken a large amount of time and we have had to leave this until later in the year. Therefore, we are providing the results of the 2011 Point Score events in this month’s newsletter. Congratulations to all who have been successful and all those that have taken the time to compete in the events.
Next Month will be the 2012 AGM and all members of the Executive are nominating to continue. We also would welcome any other nominations. It is your association and if you have some spare time all inputs would be appreciated.
Due to the timing of our AGM prior to the MAAA Annual Conference I will be nominating as President of MASNSW, I am also a running for the position of MAAA President and if successful in that nomination I will have to stand down as MASNSW President. The Vice President (presently Tim Nolan) will then take the position of MASNSW President.
Mike Close is retiring as MAAA President after 14 years and we wish him well in his future ventures.
CFI Report April 2012
I was absent from the March monthly MASNSW meeting as I was invited to present an Instructor’s course for MAAQ in Townsville, due to their CFI standing down. This course was already planned and they asked us to assist instead of cancelling the course. This was a very successful event with 15 fixed wing and 4 Rotary Wing applicants. MAAQ has also asked us to provide another course for them on the weekend of the 15/16 June south of Brisbane. I have accepted this invitation and will be taking George Atkinson to present the Helicopter practical side. All expenses for these courses are covered by MAAQ and there is no cost to MASNSW or its members.
Planning for our next instructors course at Hawkesbury on the weekend of the 5/6th May is well underway and it looks like we will have about 20 prospective instructors in all three categories. The course will follow our normal structure of being an Instructors course and workshop. The nominations are coming in and we can still take a few more nominations..
To become a new instructor you need to have Gold Wings in your particular discipline and be nominated by your Club. Existing Instructors can self-nominate to refresh their knowledge of instructional techniques and procedures and I also welcome observers from Club Executives.
There will only be selected numbers of observers allowed as the primary reason for the course/workshop is for Instructor training.
At this course we will have the capacity to present to Fixed Wing, Helicopter and Glider Instructors. So please contact the Secretary Tim Nolan with copies to me. Email addresses are available in the newsletter and on our Website www.masnsw.org .
