Given the interest that we all share in reducing noise, and also the issue that electrics tend to turn different props at similar RPM for different amps (rather than RPM being dictated by engine power and prop size on internal combustion engines), you might find this LINK interesting.

It takes you to a static thrust calculator - enter the basic information in the blue box and click [calculate] bottom left, and the resultant thrust is shown. I was pondering whether to add more cells (and, thus, more revs) to my electric Tiger Moth, or to try going from a 17-10 to 18-10 prop. The calculator reckons about a 20% increase in thrust by changing the prop (and still a good flying speed). That has to be worth a try! I can't vouch for the accuracy of the output, but it looks about right to me.

Well, 7th May proved a cracking day for flying, with 3 maidens forecast...

Mike Minty with his excellent Pup (14 years from build to maiden), which flew wonderfully...and there is a full story on the building traumas available at the download page, which you can reach by clicking HERE

Blair Edwards, with his P40, assisted by Dean...

Clive's Moth - electric powered - which, after a rigging marathon had batteries installed...and the ESC blew...so the beastie got dismantled in A1 condition, to live to fight another day.

Not all maiden's are predictable, clearly! One up for the internal combustioneers.

The club AGM takes place on 28th June at Tennis Cove.

If you would like to nominate, or to be nominated for any of the committee roles, the form that you need can be downloaded by clicking HERE. Please note that the proposer, seconder and nominee need to sign, and they all need to be paid-up members of WRCS. Please make sure all nominations reach the President in plenty of time for the AGM.

We are just waiting for some final confirmations on fees etc from MAAA and it is expected that renewal documents will be sent out during the last week of May.

Members wishing to renew their membership please note:

  1. Please advise the Registrar, Ron Clark, ASAP if your address has changed from last financial year, eg since 30/6/2010.
  2. If you are not attending the AGM and wish to renew please make sure you send your renewal form plus your payment to the Registrar before the 7th July 2011. Any renewals sent to the Registrar after that date will not be processed until 30th August 2011 and you will not receive a new gate key until after that date.
By the way, if you didn't recieve an email last week asking for volunteers for scale day, it will (most likely) be because either you don't recieve email at all or because we don't have the correct current address. If you'd like to receive occasional emails on club matters, please make sure that you let me (Clive) know or, alternatively, correct the details when you renew. If you want to email me, you can do so by clicking This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
